Read an article on a post Bob Stanley on Guardian

"In the summer, the scene would move en masse to Ostend, Belgium's equivalent to Blackpool. DJ Freddy Cousaert played at the Groove, a late night downstairs bar frequented by US marines, lovers of blues and soul music
and tourists, it was Cousaert who later looked after Marvin Gaye during his 80s sejourn in Ostend. The music he played at the Groove included ska, Latin jazz and even Broadway songs such as Stranger in Paradise, or Whatever Lola Wants from Damn Yankees...."

IKE TURNER & THE KINGS OF RHYTHM A BLACK MAN'S SOUL

POMPEII RECORDS 1969                          SD 6003

credits:

Composed By – A, Miller* (tracks: B4), Ike Turner (tracks: A1 to A3, A6, B3, B5, B6),
Marvin Holmes  (tracks: B1,B2), Oliver Sain (tracks: A4,A5)
Producer – Ike & Tina Turner

When he was out on tour in 1969 with his regular gig, the Ike & Tina Turner Revue,
Ike Turner found the time to cut the instrumental album A Black Man's Soul.
Whenever he had some spare time he would drag the band into a local studio
and lay down tracks, resulting in these 12 funky soul jams that sound like
they were lifted from the soundtrack to a blaxploitation film. The band is
tight and laid-back at once, with horns at the forefront most of the time.
Turner came up with some fine grooves like "Thinking Black,"
"Getting Nasty" (with Billy Preston on piano), "Scotty Souling," "Nuttin' Up,"
and the monumental "Funky Mule." However, the record lacks
Turner's usual fire and flair and ultimately istoo polite and slick to be
very memorable ("Funky Mule" aside
